The purpose of this study was to examine the adequacy of the existing transportation system to handle the anticipated 20 year growth in this Coastal community with a large industrial and mining activity.

BKS Inc, performed the traffic analyses required to determine safety and capacity deficiencies of the existing street system and the necessary improvements to provide desired levels of service under the future growth conditions. This was done through a detailed travel demand analyses based on current O-D patterns, growth rates and future land use scenarios. The CONTRAM software was employed to simulated the current and future road networks and to assign the estimated demand to the road network.

During this study a five year road improvement/construction programme was also developed.
